New York Police Department detectives Louis Eppolito and Steven Caracappa, assigned to the Organized Crime Task Force, were on Federal officials’ radar as Mafia associates by 1985, but skated clean due to lack of evidence. Both retired in the early 1990‘s. In 1994, Eppolito wrote his book, Mafia Cop, which, while not an admission, filled in the blanks for investigators and led them to the corrupt cops’ mob go-between, Burton Kaplan, whom the investigators flipped. Eppolito and Caracappa were each convicted of multiple felonies including eight counts of murder for hire.

Decamped to Sin City; complacent, no fears
Then one, he book bragged
The pair, he down dragged
Feds crunched their mobbed up asses into arrears
